Dr. Katz completed residency training in pediatrics, neurology/child neurology, psychiatry and 
child and adolescent psychiatry and is board certified in each of these specialties. She completed
adult psychoanalytic training at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute and is board certified in
adult psychoanalysis. After many years in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of
Kentucky where she served as residency program director for adult psychiatry and Vice Chair
for Education, she went into private practice. She continues to work at the Center for Trauma
and Children at the University of Kentucky where she consults and participates in research. In her
practice, Dr. Katz sees adults and children who seek help for a wide range of problems including
depression, anxiety, difficulties in relationships, trauma, gender concerns, eating disorders and
underachievement. She has extensive experience teaching psychiatry and psychotherapy to medical
students, residents and mental health professionals and has been a longstanding supervisor for
residents and mental health professionals. Dr. Katz has published papers and book chapters in the
areas of trauma, child development, psychiatric education and psychoanalysis. She serves on a
number of national committees and editorial boards.
