Analytic Training Program – Adult (ATP)
Analytic Training Program-Adult (ATP) provides post-graduate training for individuals who already have state licenses in a mental health field, e.g., DO, LCSW, LPCC, MD, PhD, PsyD. The training program includes three concurrent components: 1) personal training analysis, 2) treatment of three psychoanalytic patients, and 3) a curriculum of study.
The educational aim of a personal training analysis is to free candidates from attitudes which could interfere with their psychoanalytic competence as well as to provide a firsthand experience of the dynamic unconscious, resistances and transference.
Consultation about cases with a CPI faculty member helps candidates learn the psychoanalytic method. Through weekly consultation sessions, candidates observe how they integrate their personal analysis with the didactic and clinical work. The process assists in the development of each candidate’s unique capacity to do analytic work.
Our five year curriculum focuses on theories of development, psychopathology, clinical theories and case conferences. Classes are scheduled from September to May on a semester system for a total of 30 weeks per year. Classes meet five hours per week (currently on Fridays.) This course of study includes the opportunity for candidates to participate in local seminars led by nationally known scholars.
Full participation in the activities of the Institute is available to any qualified person regardless of race, color, creed, age, gender, marital status, disability, national or ethnic origin, or sexual orientation.
